According to a Yougov survey, almost half of German citizens find the smell of cannabis unpleasant.
48 percent are against cannabis consumption in restaurants, while 17 percent are in favor of it in outdoor restaurants.
The cultivation, possession and consumption of cannabis has been legal in Germany since April 1st, but restaurateurs can regulate consumption in their establishments.
A survey by the Yougov opinion research institute shows that every second German citizen finds the smell of cannabis unpleasant. Accordingly, 30 and 18 percent of those surveyed said that the smell was “very unpleasant” or “somewhat unpleasant” for them. Eight or six percent said “somewhat pleasant” or “very pleasant”.

When it comes to the rules for cannabis consumption in restaurants, 48 percent say cannabis should not be allowed there at all. Another 14 percent believe that cannabis should only be allowed in certain places. 17 percent of those surveyed expressed their approval of cannabis consumption in outdoor catering. 17 percent are also in favor of landlords allowing the smoking of cannabis in the same places where smoking cigarettes was previously permitted.
