The Fauna Wastopia exhibition is a presentation of the work of artist Rega Ayundya Putri from Bandung which includes murals, audio and interactive educational activities for children and families. The art project exhibited at the MACAN Museum explores the issue of extinction and environmental degradation which are the consequences of waste mismanagement.
Rega Ayundya Putri creates images of imaginary mutants and animal species that have undergone mutations. Changes in the physiology of the imaginary animals are the result of exposure to toxic waste, an environmental crisis caused by humans.
“Inside the Children’s Art Room area, visitors will be able to see murals of the abandoned city. There are around 28 images of imaginary mutants placed as acrylic prints on the walls. Brief descriptions of the mutants are also provided.
In the activity area, kids can create their own mutant species by making collages. They can take home the new species they have created or stick them on the wall in the activity area.
