The words of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, interviewed by Bloomberg, reopen fears about the future of the car production plants in Italy of the main national company in the sector. When asked about recent criticism from the Italian government on the possibility that the company will relocate part of its production to other countries, the Stellantis manager replies: «This is a scapegoat, while trying to avoid taking responsibility for the fact that , if subsidies are not given for the purchase of electric vehicles, Italian factories will be put at risk.” The owner of Mimit Adolfo Urso replies: «If Tavares believes that Italy should do as France did, which increased its active participation in Stellantis, they ask us. Make us a request.” Urso recalls that «in the meeting I had in recent months with Tavares and in the various meetings with the Elkann owners, I received a specific request for a push to change the legislation on Euro 7, which in their opinion would have strangled Stellantis. And this was done, because we achieved a turnaround in Europe.”

Tavarers touched on multiple topics, including the issue of relocating the company. «I don’t always agree with the French government» and «Stellantis is not in the hands of the French government». Thus the CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, in an interview with Bloomberg, rejects the accusations of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, according to which the birth of the automotive group hides a French acquisition of FCA. “If we talk about the French mandate that they are trying to use as a scapegoat, they ignore the fact that the CEO of the company is a Portuguese gentleman,” added Tavares, who in the past also had disagreements with the French government, not giving in to the request of the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, to locally produce economical models of electric cars.

«We want to try to look at the glass half full, and it must be recognized that the new incentives restore a more effective economic differential between zero-emission and polluting mobility: we hope this can really support electric and help decarbonise our national fleet, now among the oldest and most polluting in Europe. On the other hand, the support that Italy continues to guarantee, with public money, to obsolete, polluting and climate-damaging vehicles is impossible to justify” underlined Andrea Boraschi, director of the Italian Transport & Environment (T&E) office, commenting precisely the new plan represented by Urso at the automotive table promoted by the government.
