Taranto inaugurates the first Italian offshore wind farm and asks to accelerate on renewables

“It is important – he noted – not only to enhance good practices but also to involve communities to understand which solutions can be optimal from the point of view of energy production and relatively less impactful”. The Minister of Infrastructure has asked that Italy create a “system”. According to Giovannini, this “is one of the difficulties that our country has compared to other European countries and beyond”.
«Making a system – he pointed out – means realizing compatibility. We know that there is a school of thought opposed to the installation of wind farms and photovoltaic parks in the name of an element that is protected by our Constitution, which is the protection of the landscape ». But this, Giovannini pointed out, “must be considered together with other protections which our Constitution guarantees. Among other things, precisely that of ecosystems, of the environment, in the interest of future generations as stated in the change in article 9 recently voted by Parliament. Therefore, having a balance of the different interests – the minister argued -, of the different needs, also with a view to future generations, requires a new way of thinking and seeing ». According to the minister, “even innovative infrastructures like this have an impact on the landscape, but all in all limited compared to other solutions”.
“I hope that we will be able to find mediation solutions also for what concerns wind farms, photovoltaics or other renewable energy solutions because we need them” concluded Giovannini.

Giorgetti: after Taranto I hope for an emulation effect

For Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economic Development, who also spoke with a video message, the Renexia offshore wind farm in Taranto “can represent a milestone and also a reason for emulation for the many others who, financed perhaps with development, with the initiatives that the PNRR has put in place, can make an effective contribution to what will be in perspective the energy sovereignty of the country and the goal that all of us must set ourselves ».
«Other initiatives have been given the green light – added Giorgetti – and there is a great impetus from the Government for this type of initiative. But the real reality today is that Renexia has somehow managed to forge ahead and inaugurate this first marine wind farm in Taranto ».

Bernabè: extraordinary delay in renewables in Italy

According to the president of Acciaierie d’Italia, formerly Ilva, Franco Bernabè, in Italy there are “170 GW awaiting construction authorization, three times the Italian energy requirement”. Therefore, Bernabè pointed out, “there are ideas and capital for renewable energies”. Today, said the president of Acciaierie d’Italia, we need to “reduce the import of gas from Russia, but in the meantime we have accumulated an extraordinary delay in renewables. France and Spain have done more than us. France has also done a lot in nuclear power. Same situation for Holland. We, on the other hand, are lagging behind together with Germany. We have a champion in renewables like Enel, but he has built everywhere except in Italy ». According to Bernabè, «the theme is“ the liberalization of investment in renewables ”.

Ciafani (Legambiente): stem the party of no

For Stefano Ciafani, national president of Legambiente, “14 years of waiting are an unacceptable length of time. For this reason, as Legambiente we have created the banner “Sorry I’m late”. But this country must apologize to those who want to invest and contribute to the energy transition. We must give substance to these things ». For Ciafani, «the 14 years it took before reaching the end of the project are the result of the many no-sayings in this area. The Superintendency said no, the Region, the local authorities, some environmentalist groups said no ».

«We – Ciafani found – were an isolated voice. The no party is very transversal and is still in sight if you think about what is happening for the wind farms off the coast of Brindisi and Salento and for what will happen for the one off Barletta ». For the number 1 of Legambiente, it is necessary “to avoid this film becoming a soap opera”. Therefore “the Region must identify the suitable areas where to make the plants, avoiding saying that they should be done only in the” loser “areas, just as the Municipalities must avoid saying not to do it in their territory but in that of the neighboring Municipality”.
Ciafani then asked for an intervention by Minister Dario Franceschini against what he called “the obsession of the Superintendencies against wind farms, an obsession that is still ongoing” and urged the environmentalist world to “courage, clarity and consistency. Today part of the environmentalist world is absolutely inconsistent ».
