Xiaomi is launching its first electric car, the SU7 model, on the Chinese market.

The price is between 27,700 and 39,000 euros, depending on the model, and the company wants to compete with BYD and Tesla.

The fastest version of the SU7 should accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 2.78 seconds and can travel around 800 kilometers on a single battery charge.

Xiaomi’s goal is to build the fastest car at this price, Lei said. In the fastest version, the SU7 should accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 2.78 seconds. For comparison: According to the manufacturer, the fastest Model S from Tesla manages the sprint in 2.1 seconds. With one battery charge, the SU7 should travel around 800 kilometers with the largest battery.

Companies from outside the industry are also pushing into the electric car market in China. Telecommunications giant Huawei and Baidu, the Chinese equivalent of Google, are also involved in electric cars. The market is characterized by intense price competition. German manufacturers such as VW and BMW are lagging behind the Chinese competition when it comes to electric cars and are trying to catch up.
