The ancestor of the personal computer “Apple One” sold for $400,000 | Apple-1 | Apple

A computer of this type was sold at an auction in California a few days ago for $400,000. Surprisingly, nearly half a century after its birth, this computer can still be used normally.

John Moran Auctioneers, who is in charge of the auction, pointed out that this computer was designed by Apple Computer’s co-founder Steve Wozniak and assembled by another founder, Steve Jobs. And to test, it dropped the hammer for $400,000 at the end of the auction on November 9.

Wozniak and Jobs produced a total of 200 Apple One in 1976, of which 175 were sold for $666.66.

The “Apple One” in this auction is paired with a screen produced by Panasonic in 1986. Its special feature lies in the wooden shell, which is made from Hawaii’s unique koa tree (koa). Only a few “Apple One” uses this wooden case.

According to John Moran Auction Company, this “Apple One” was first bought by an electronics professor at California’s Chaffey College and later sold to his students in 1977.

The unnamed student bought the computer for $650 at the time and kept it until now, and finally sold it for hundreds of times the price.

Apple computer expert Corey Cohen said that for collectors of antique electronics and computer technology, “Apple One” is as precious as the Holy Grail.

Cohen told the National Public Radio (NPR) that the “Apple One” was the first personal computer with a warranty, and it marked the beginning of the personal computer industry.

He said, “Apple One” not only represents the beginning of Apple Computer, but also the originality of Wozniak and Jobs and their shared vision.

Their vision is, “The computer is not something to be scared of, it can become a part of life and help improve your life.”
