Google Pays Tribute to Flat White Coffee with New Doodle

Approximately 25 years ago, Google made an exception to its characteristic minimalistic page design to introduce the concept of “doodles,” which are playful variations of the logo. On Monday, March 11, Google surprised its users with a new doodle honoring the flat white coffee, a popular drink in specialty coffee shops.

Coffee is a widely versatile and popular beverage, with more than 50 countries around the world participating in its production. The flat white, in particular, has gained popularity in recent years, with origins dating back to the early 1980s in New Zealand or the USA.

What sets the flat white apart from other coffee drinks is the way the milk is prepared. It aims to achieve a softer and silkier texture, balancing the flavors of coffee and milk without one overpowering the other. The traditional preparation of a flat white includes a higher coffee-to-milk ratio compared to cappuccinos and lattes, resulting in a more concentrated flavor.

To serve a perfect flat white, the milk is mixed with a light foam in a cup with espresso coffee, creating a velvety mixture with a thin layer of foam on top. The key to a flawless flat white is carefully pouring the hot steamed milk over the espresso to achieve the desired texture.

For those interested in preparing a flat white at home, heating 150-200ml of milk to around 65°C and brewing a double espresso are the first steps. The espresso is poured into a cup followed by the carefully poured steamed milk to create a thin layer of foam on top.

With the flat white gaining popularity worldwide, Google’s tribute through its doodle recognizes this trendy coffee choice and highlights its unique characteristics. Whether enjoyed in a coffee shop or prepared at home, the flat white continues to captivate coffee enthusiasts with its delicious blend of flavors.
