The little ones are renewed and aim for a revival

The best-sellers are renewed. With a market in crisis but not bent by the pandemic (in 2020 over 50 cc scooters marked a decrease of 6.43% with 124,518 registrations), the main manufacturers wanted to “polish the silverware at home”, that is, renewed the models most appreciated by the public. Like Piaggio, for example, which presented the 2021 version of its best seller, the Beverly: the high wheels (16 inches at the front) have been renewed and are increasingly suitable for all-round use, from urban commuting to touring. . The hearts of the two versions (300 hpe and 400 hpe S) change with two new Euro 5 engines: both are single-cylinder 4-stroke, 4-valve, with liquid cooling and electronic injection; power grows: 25.8 hp for the 300, 35.4 hp for the 400, values that make them also suitable for motorways. The two Beverly have the chassis in common, but the 400 hpe version adopts wider tires for greater stability at high speeds. On the Beverly MY21 comes the keyless system to start the engine (but also to unlock the saddle, steering lock and fuel cap) keeping the key in your pocket and a new LCD instrumentation with the Piaggio Mia to connect the smartphone.

2021 is also the 75th anniversary of the Vespa: to celebrate it, Piaggio launches the 75th version, which will only be sold in 2021, in the Primavera models (in 50, 125 and 150 cc) and Gts (125 and 300 cc) models, with a exclusive livery, special finishes, smoke gray nubuck saddle and chrome luggage rack that houses a dedicated wheel-shaped bag to take with you after parking.

Honda has also put a hand to its best-seller, the largest of the Sh family, the 300: the 2021 version grows in displacement, from 279 to 330 cc, and takes the name of Sh350i (at just under 6 thousand euros) and is Euro5. With the additional cc increase power (28.3 hp) and torque (32 Nm), for a more sustained thrust over the entire rev range. The new Honda thus increases the attitude to travel on the motorway, also considering that it reaches 134 km / h effective. Consumption remains low: Honda declares 30 km / l (in the average Wmtc cycle) which, considering the 9.1-liter tank, means over 270 km of autonomy. The standard equipment is interesting: windshield and handguards, USB type C socket to recharge the smartphone, split LCD dashboard, and Smart-Key which, in addition to allowing you to start the engine without a physical key and open / close the compartments, also allows you to handle the 35-liter top box.

2021 is an important year for Tmax (the best-selling Yamaha scooter in Europe with over 300 thousand units, forerunner of the sporty maxi scooters): it turns 20 and celebrates them with the “20 anniversary” version, available online from March 31 in only 560 units, a figure that recalls the displacement of its twin cylinder. The 20-year Tmax features carbon fiber with a distinctive design, as well as heated grips and saddle, numbered badge and an exclusive Tech Graphite livery with bronze rims.

Interesting news are also expected from Taiwan: at the end of spring the Kymco Dt X360 is expected, a crossover scooter designed for the city but also for having fun on easy dirt roads; mounts a single-cylinder of 320 cc that delivers almost 29 horsepower and the traction control can be disengaged.
