Affected by the continuous high temperature, the electricity load in many places across the country has recently hit a record high. The person in charge of the China Electricity Council said yesterday (June 28) that the national electricity supply and demand are generally balanced, and power supply in some areas is tight during peak hours.
From January to May this year, the national electricity consumption of the whole society was 3.35 trillion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%, and the hydropower, wind power and solar power generation increased rapidly. Since June, the year-on-year growth rate of electricity consumption has turned from negative to positive. With the arrival of hot summer weather, provincial power grids such as Henan, Hebei, Gansu, and Ningxia have achieved record high electricity loads.
Yang Kun, executive vice chairman of China Electricity Council: We have corresponding emergency plans for some regions and enterprises with tight power supply and demand. From the current point of view, supply and demand are generally balanced during the peak summer period.
The person in charge of the China Electricity Council also said that the increase in new energy power generation has also played a positive role in alleviating the power consumption during the peak summer season. Data show that as of the end of May this year, my country’s non-fossil power generation installed capacity was 1.01 billion kilowatts, of which wind power, solar power and other new energy power generation installed capacity totaled 667 million kilowatts.
Yang Kun, Executive Vice Chairman of China Electricity Council: New energy power generation has gradually become an important part of my country’s power supply. From January to May, it accounted for 40.6% of the total power generation of the full-caliber, providing more and more important support for the power balance of the system. (CCTV News Client)
