The President of the Senate Casellati: Pnrr to be reviewed

The PNRR is and remains a great opportunity for Italy, but now it needs a review because after the pandemic emergency from which the country is emerging, there is now a new emergency to face and that is the impact of the war in Ukraine.

Opening in Manduria (Taranto), the Forum in Masseria, interviewed by Bruno Vespa, Elisabetta Casellati, president of the Senate, immediately raises a crucial issue. «Europe must think of a Marshall plan – says the president of the Senate -. Otherwise this crisis risks weighing on some countries more than others and it cannot be like that ”.

“The strategies studied seem already out of date” says Casellati about what has been put in place for the pandemic and which now has to deal with the scenario of the war. For Casellati, «the PNRR should always be reviewed in Europe. Europe must take on the common debt. Europe must think of necessary resources in the face of these emergencies ».

From Pnrr Casellati then broadens his gaze to Europe and the need to relaunch it. “I say this as a convinced pro-European – she maintains -. Today we are faced with a war between Russia and Ukraine that has hit Europe to the heart and has profoundly changed the political architecture of the international powers. I hope that the solution, which will soon be found on the diplomatic level, can be solved internationally by bringing Russia, China, the United States and Europe to the same table. A Europe not in tow, but one that has autonomy over security and defense, that can decide the life of the various states taking into account the needs of the states themselves “.

“Enough with unanimity in the EU and minority supremacy”

«Enough with unanimity – says the president of the Senate -, otherwise we have the supremacy of the minority which means the lack of solidarity for those who need it most. If Europe wants to rebuild itself, either we do it now, on this extraordinary occasion, or we will never do it again »insists Casellati. “Today we are confronted with this emergency and today we must respond,” she emphasizes. And to give greater prominence to the concept of relaunching Europe, Casellati adds: «Today there is a debate on weapons. The armed forces of the whole European Union are four times higher than those of Russia. If there were true unity, we would not need a discussion because there would be a single decision and it would mean making a piece of that Europe that everyone is talking about but is struggling to get started. We need to find common points of convergence in Europe », Casellati points out.
