ROME (ITALPRESS) – The publication of the statistical report in English “The strengths of Italian agriculture (leading producer in Europe and in the world)”, arises from the collaboration between Confagricoltura and the Edison Foundation. Confagricoltura considers the Foundation’s analysis and studies to be a precious support for the Organization’s initiatives in a very complex period, but at the same time full of opportunities to be seized. The statistical report illustrates Italy’s primates in plant products such as vegetables, fruit and cereals. From the analysis carried out by the Edison Foundation and Confagricoltura, it emerges that Italy ranks first for added value among the main fruit and vegetable producing countries, but also in the wine, rice and durum wheat sectors. Furthermore, the quality of our products is considered to be exceptional globally. The agri-food supply chain, from the farm to the final consumer, is the largest supply chain in Italy, with an annual turnover of approximately 540 billion euros, or approximately 25% of the gross domestic product. “We are proud of these results, but – noted the president of Confagricoltura Massimiliano Giansanti in the introduction of the report – we are also convinced that we still have enormous potential to exploit. The internal self-sufficiency rate is estimated at around 75% and, in terms of value, our exports, about 45 billion euros per year, are lower than those of France, Germany and Spain “. “The health emergency has shown that Italy can count on a solid agri-food system – continued the president of Confagricoltura -. Supplies have always been guaranteed. But we must go on. Once the pandemic is over, we will certainly not be able to back to the starting point. There is a potential for growth, innovation and the creation of skilled jobs. A greater awareness of our strengths, combined with actions that enhance our many excellences, most of which are still unknown, could represent the essential element missing from our agri-food policy “. There is still a lot of work to be done, also in terms of analyzes and projects. In this perspective, the collaboration of Confagricoltura with the Edison Foundation provides an important support of knowledge and enhancement, also at a European level.
