The rector of the Federico II University of Naples, Matteo Lorito, is the new president of the Scientific Committee of the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana Dop. With Lorito, the former minister Luigi Nicolais, president, among other things, of the Carditello Foundation also joins the organization; completing the very high profile team is Professor Germano Mucchetti, Full Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Department of Food Sciences of the University of Parma. The appointments were decided by the Consortium’s Board of Directors.

“I thank the members of the Committee for accepting the assignment, we are happy to work with authoritative exponents of the university and institutions on the path of innovation for our supply chain”, comments the president of the Protection Consortium, Domenico Raimondo.

“Their history, the constant commitment to the same issues dear to us – adds Raimondo – have prompted us to ask for their collaboration to outline the future that awaits our sector, increasingly linked to the training of young people, and to modernize a centuries-old tradition , what is the production of buffalo mozzarella from Campania. We are convinced that this is the way forward ».

The objective is to relaunch the Committee’s activities in strong synergy with the world of knowledge. The mission of the Scientific Committee is precisely the connection between the scientific, academic and production world, to face the challenges of the supply chain. “We believe that interconnection is central – explains Marco Nobis, director of the Consorzio di Tutela – in a constant confrontation between the academy, the Consortium and companies: research, development and training must be implemented on all links in the supply chain, this is the approach of work that we have given ourselves “.

The rector Lorito says he is «pleased and honored to receive the position of president of the Consortium’s Scientific Committee, a task that I will face with enthusiasm, with the aim of encouraging a strong synergy with the academic world I represent. Buffalo mozzarella from Campania is a great economic engine of the region and it is crucial to prepare young people capable of developing the sector. We will carry out a multidisciplinary approach, involving the various departments, from economics to agriculture and engineering ».

Professor Nicolais thanks «the president Raimondo and the Consortium for the esteem towards me. I am happy – he continues – to be able to make my contribution to an important supply chain, with which we are already carrying out projects related to sustainability issues. Thus science and the use of science come together and it is essential that they go hand in hand “, he concludes. «I continue with pleasure – says Professor Mucchetti – in my commitment to study and research in the sector of buffalo from Campania. Teamwork with the Consortium and the other colleagues will make it possible to better address the topical issues of one of the main Made in Italy supply chains ».
