The Stratologic drone to monitor glaciers and fires

“Stratospheric bees” whose swarms will alternate about twenty kilometers above the earth’s surface to provide high-definition images. The project, an international patent pending validation, is by the Stratologic startup, based in the business incubator of Pont-Saint-Martin, in the Aosta Valley. Ready for acceleration, the product is a sort of “stratospheric drone with a double balloon, one large and one small to which an airplane with wings, propellers and solar panels is connected, a few tens of meters below.” Miherea, CEO and co-founder, during the meeting with potential investors at the Demo day in Aosta, organized by the Brodolini Foundation, manager of the Pépinières d’entreprises in the region. “This system allows for much more defined images than satellite images and at the same time for much larger areas than those covered by a drone,” explains Miherea. «This allows for continuous and punctual interventions, for example on fires or landslides or for monitoring glaciers. On this aspect in Valle d’Aosta we have collaborated with the Safe Mountain Foundation ». The innovation lies precisely in applying the world of the swarm to these particular drones to fill the gap that exists between space and ground systems. “It is incorrect to call them drones, rather they are hybrids. In fact, we do not use authorizations for the launch of drones, but for the launch of meteorological probes ». To validate the technology, 2 million are needed and in the startup plan the expected turnover in 2030 reaches 200 million.
