The wood industry accelerates on the environmental transition

by admin

Whoever gets off to a good start, as we know, is half the battle. And the Italian wood-furniture industry faces the decisive challenge of environmental transition with respectable numbers: 67% of companies use materials or semi-finished products made with recycled materials and 81% use wood produced in a sustainable way. This is stated by the survey «Italian wood-furniture in the ecological transition» carried out in collaboration with the Symbola Foundation and presented during the annual meeting of the Federation.

The “green” photography of the sector

The aim of the research is to analyze the positioning of companies on this issue in order to systematize the commitment of these years and guide the process of ecological transition in the best possible way, a fundamental tool for relaunching the country as well as a key element for accessing the resources of the Plan. national recovery and resilience.

The research returns the photograph of a supply chain which, from a circular economy perspective, is already among the most advanced in Europe, strong in virtuous behavior, not always – however – systematized. Mapping the paths undertaken by companies, from the supply chain to production processes, from design to the end of life of products, is the first step to trace the road map of the sector towards the ecological transition and transform environmental challenges into growth opportunities.

“We first wanted to look at ourselves in the mirror, with a very pragmatic approach that helps us to focus on our strengths and those on which we need to work more, but in the full awareness that there is no going back – explained the president of FederlegnoArredo. , Claudio Feltrin, who made sustainability one of the key points of his mandate -. The ecological transition represents an epochal turning point for companies. Not seizing this opportunity would mean self-exclusion from the market and our role as an association is to accompany all companies, especially the smallest ones, towards a fully sustainable and circular model ».

The “decalogue” of sustainability

FederlegnoArredo also presented a “decalogue” for the transition: ten objectives that the supply chain intends to pursue, with the ambition of becoming an authoritative voice on the subject and providing a guide to operators in the sector. “At the beginning of 2022, the families of actions to be taken and the progress indicators with which to monitor the path underway will be explained and articulated, to arrive in the next five years to be able to say, numbers in hand, that we have really placed sustainability at the center of the our work », Claudio Feltrin explains.
