Parallel to the investor process, negotiations are ongoing with the landlords of the Galeria department stores. “We are talking to all landlords. We don’t just pay more than the market rate for the properties that belong to Galeria’s mother Signa,” said Galeria boss Olivier Van den Bossche to WirtschaftsWoche. “How many branches are ultimately retained depends largely on the extent to which the landlords accommodate us.” It is usual that seven to eleven percent of a branch’s sales have to be spent on rent. “For many locations we pay significantly more,” says Van den Bossche.
