Tourism, the summer of Liguria starts with the motorway construction sites

by admin

The second weekend of June, for Liguria the first weekend in the white band compared to the Covid epidemic, opens with a question mark for traffic on the Ligurian motorway network. From 2 pm on Friday, Autostrade per l’Italia – the data is provided by the company – closed all the construction sites active over the weekend and this will continue until July. From next Monday and every weekday, however, there will be nine construction sites (for 20 works) open, even at night, until the end of June. And with increasingly strong tourist flows on the roads, this will certainly cause some slowdown.

From July the construction site areas open on weekdays will drop to four: on the A12 Genoa-Livorno the construction sites of the Maddalena tunnels between Rapallo and Chiavari, Monte Castelletti between Nervi and Recco and that of the Santa Giulia tunnel between Lavagna and Sestri Levante; on the A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia the construction site of the Ranco tunnel between Savona and Albisola. The construction site between the Prà and Pegli toll booths is also open, but only at night.

On Friday two critical episodes on the Ligurian motorway network

Despite the stop to the works, on Friday the Ligurian network suffered two critical moments: queue kilometers due to an accident (the claims multiplied, with the extension of the construction sites on the network) between the A12-A7 Milan-Genoa and Genoa junction Nervi and a queue of five kilometers between Nervi and Recco for a stationary vehicle. However, according to Francesco Sapio, director of Section 1, “there will be no queues on the Ligurian network on weekends, as was the case last year; and my feeling – he adds – is that, even during the weekdays, except in special cases, there will be no queues similar to those of last summer; because it is all planned and shared with the institutions ».

The motorway traffic situation, however, worries the mayors and presidents of the Ligurian Province. Last Wednesday, at the end of a meeting of the ANCI bureau, the first citizens and presidents asked for “the immediate suspension of all construction sites on the motorways at least until the first week of November”. Otherwise, they threaten “a series of ordinances that will block construction sites and force everyone to take responsibility for changing work schedules that are not compatible or sustainable with the need to relaunch our territories”.

Carlo Bagnasco, mayor of Rapallo, wrote to Autostrade in recent days asking for an urgent meeting after, for the umpteenth time, a fall of material occurred on 9 June from the viaduct above via Betti. «So far – emphasizes Bagnasco – we have not received any response to this letter or to those we have written previously. I hope that action can be taken very soon on open construction sites. And there must also be a synthesis between the works in progress on the motorway and those on the provincial roads, which cannot coexist as they do today. With this situation there are constant economic losses, because it is difficult to reach our territory ».
