Under pressure from shareholders, Twitter has entered into talks with Elon Musk on its proposed $ 43 billion acquisition. This was reported by Reuters and the BBC, citing some sources according to which the decision of the social media company, which so far had raised the barricades, does not mean that it will accept his offer of 54.20 dollars per share. A few hours earlier he had already spoken of an afterthought Wall Street Journal.
In the past few days, Musk has been meeting with Twitter shareholders seeking support for his proposal. And many of these would have urged the company not to pass up the opportunity for an agreement. The Twitter board, according to the same sources, has therefore decided to negotiate with Musk to gather more information on his ability to complete the transaction and to try to obtain better conditions.
Twitter has not yet decided whether to consider a sale to put pressure on Tesla’s boss and push him to increase his offer. The company wants to acquire more information on any ongoing investigation into Musk by regulators, including the SEC, which would pose a risk to the completion of the transaction. Twitter is also trying to figure out whether regulators in one of the main markets it operates in would oppose the acquisition of Musk.
