U.S. Stocks Mixed, with Dow Rising and Nasdaq Falling
On Friday, U.S. stocks closed mixed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average reaching a record high and rising 0.16%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed down 0.07% and 0.36% respectively.
The best performers of the session included American Express Co, UnitedHealth Group, and Nike, while the worst performers were Intel Corporation, Visa, and McDonald’s Corporation. American Express saw a 7.09% increase in its stock, while Intel Corporation fell by 11.91%.
The S&P 500’s best performers were American Express, Airbnb, and Capital One Financial Company, with Intel Corporation, Fair Isaac Corp, and KLA Corporation as the worst.
On the Nasdaq Composite, Corbus Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc, SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A, and Bit Origin Ltd were the top performers, while Richtech Robotics Inc, Yoshitsu Co Ltd ADR, and Nuvve Holding Corp were the worst.
In terms of market statistics, there were 1,587 stocks that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, 1,239 that closed down, and 98 that stayed the same. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, there were 1,764 stocks that rose, 1,620 that fell, and 150 that were unchanged.
Implied volatility, a measure of S&P 500 options, fell 1.41% to 13.26.
In the futures market, the price of the February options contract on gold futures rose, while WTI crude oil futures and March London Brent crude oil futures contracts also saw increases in pricing.
In the foreign exchange market, the EUR/USD remained unchanged, while the USD/JPY rose by 0.32%.
Overall, U.S. stocks were mixed on Friday, with the Dow rising and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq falling, along with various individual stocks experiencing both gains and losses.
