As the first nuclear power plant and the largest energy investment project in Northeast China, Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station has built a total of 6 nuclear power units. The four units of the first phase of the project were all completed and put into commercial operation in 2016; the construction of units 5 and 6 of the second phase of the project started in 2015, and the unit 5 was put into production on schedule on July 31, 2021.

At 13:42 on the same day, with the issuance of the grid connection order, Unit 6 was successfully connected to the grid for the first time. During the grid connection process, the parameters of Unit 6 of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Station were normal and stable, and the unit was in good condition.

According to the plan, after Unit 6 is connected to the grid for power generation for the first time, a series of tests will be performed to further verify that the unit has various performances under commercial operation conditions. Unit 6 is scheduled to achieve commercial operation within this year.

According to the introduction of the Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant, the second phase of the project, Units 5 and 6, both adopt the ACPR1000 technology of China General Nuclear Power Corporation, and are equipped with three passive systems including the passive emergency high-level cooling water source system. A number of technical improvements, such as emergency power supply, have the main technical characteristics of the third-generation nuclear power, and the safety level has been further improved.

By the end of 2021, Hongyanhe Nuclear Power had accumulated 194.4 billion kWh of clean energy on the grid. Compared with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, it is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 59.11 million tons, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 163 million tons, and comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction equivalent to 437,800 hectares of forest absorption.
