With Erasmus + internships, one in three young people find work abroad

With Erasmus + internships, one in three young people find work abroad

There is Luca who did a three-week mobility in Northern Ireland where, at an IT company, he had an experience as a developer (one of the most sought after profiles of the 4.0 revolution). Domiziana, also in Ireland, spent an “on the job” period at a sustainable tourism and breeding farm (another sector in expansion, also thanks to the NRP), which allowed her to confirm her intentions for the future. And then there is Matteo who did a 30-day internship as a pastry chef on the French island of Réunion.

Let’s talk about Education and Vocational Training; in the “Vet” sector (Vocational Education and Training) where from 2014 to today the Erasmus + Inapp National Agency, directed by Ismene Tramontano, has received a total of 5,565 projects, involving approximately 53,000 participants, including young people and professionals from the world of education and training, a transnational mobility experience. For young people in particular, individual placements of 10 to 12 months are essential for employment. On the basis of a survey carried out by the Erasmus + National Agency, aimed at participants of Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus + Vet mobility experiences, it emerged that one in three, thanks to these experiences, found a job abroad.

The European week of professional skills in Rome

All this will be discussed in a series of meetings to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus + Program and talk about the Education and Vocational Training sector, still hastily and ungenerously considered second-class today, as part of the “European week of professional skills”, in Rome from 16 to 20 May (among the participants in the initiative of 20, the Undersecretary for Labor, Rossella Accoto).

This year Inapp has already received 457 projects for individual mobility for learning purposes (+ 35% compared to 2021) and 195 applications for the development of partnerships for cooperation, against a 2022 dowry of around 60 million euros for the education and vocational training sector. Europe believes this more and more: in the period 2014-2022 the EU commission put 415 million on the plate for decentralized actions in the education and vocational training sector managed by Inapp. «Important results have been achieved – underlined the president of Inapp, Sebastiano Fadda -. With some of the projects funded this year, a significant contribution was made to the theme of the European Vocational Skills Week 2022 dedicated to the contribution of Erasmus + to the green transition ».

And the program also helps those with less chance. In the 2014-2020 period, thanks to the Agency, about 8 thousand people with fewer opportunities were involved in the funded mobility programs, 10.7% of the total. In 2021 there were about 1,900 (almost 20% of the total), reflecting how Erasmus + is becoming increasingly inclusive and accessible, as well as supporting green and digital transitions and promoting European citizenship for all young people.
