The 2024 Guangzhou Arts Season has officially opened, promising an exciting lineup of 60 excellent domestic and foreign plays to be staged in the city. The Cantonese version of the musical āThe Young Lionā kicked off the event at the Guangzhou Grand Theater on the evening of the 9th, with the season set to last until September 1.
Organized by the Propaganda Department of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau, the art season is divided into four major chapters: āSurging Art Trendsā, āColorful Artsā, āGathering of Famous Artistsā, and āEarning Soundsā. The program includes a variety of performances ranging from opera, musicals, dramas, dance dramas, concerts, acrobatics, and more.
Among the highlights of the season are the mainland premiere of the Cantonese version of the musical āThe Lionā as the opening performance, and the Russian Vakhtangov Theater drama āWar and Peaceā directed by Rimas Tuminas as the closing performance. The event also features a selection of outstanding Chinese literary and artistic works, as well as performances by artists and groups from 15 countries including Germany and Russia.
Local troupes in Guangzhou will showcase their talent with high-quality literary and artistic works created in recent years. The Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theater, Guangzhou Ballet Theater, and Guangdong Music and Art Troupe are just a few of the local groups participating in the event.
The opening performance of the Cantonese version of the musical āLionā received a warm reception from attendees, with many expressing excitement for the cultural significance of the production.
