Aci proposal: “Open the historic center to cars over 40”

by admin

ROME – With the aim of safeguarding the motoring tradition by allowing access to historic centers for vehicles over 40 years old, Aci and Anci have launched the proposal to the institutions for their free circulation. The request came at the end of the traditional assembly of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, directly from Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy and of Aci Storico, and from Roberto Pella, vicar vice president of Anci. The associations believe it is important that historic cars with at least 40 years of service can circulate freely in urban centers, without the need for further recognition by anyone who are added to the already present European definition and regulation on historic vehicles.

On the other hand, ā€œover 40ā€ vehicles are certainly not used daily but circulate very little and only for maintenance needs or to participate in events or initiatives dedicated to historic motoring for the benefit of disseminating the cultural values ā€‹ā€‹of the Italian automotive tradition. According to the promoters of the initiative, there is a need for easier and simpler rules that do not feed new forms of useless and inexcusable bureaucracy and that make possible the circulation, already limited and circumscribed, of over 40-year vehicles in urban centers.

ā€œWhat is the use and who benefits from weighing down these prestigious and beautiful ladies of the automotive world and their passionate owners, who take on the burden of keeping them and passing them on as irreplaceable testimonies of our history? – the promoters underline – Enough bureaucracy and caudine forks! We must help historic motorsport and true enthusiasts to enjoy this healthy passion, which is good for culture and the territory, including urban ones, in full balance with due respect for the environment.

This result can be achieved without unnecessary burdens, certifications or any other invention that complicates the lives of citizens “. Furthermore, the Anci stressed that it would be sufficient to make use of the institutional collaboration and the Aci database to identify, simply and at no cost, the vehicles over the age of 40 that could be allowed to circulate in urban centers. In fact, the ACI would be able to provide free and automatically to local administrations and local police bodies all the necessary data (even in the presence of electronic gates and without the need for any physical control), to instantly identify the vehicles authorized to access and circulation.
