Zhitong Finance APP learned that Amazon (NASDAQ:)(AMZN.US) and Universal Pictures have reached a multi-year agreement under which Prime Video will obtain the latter’s exclusive streaming rights for live-action movies. According to reports, this is the first time Amazon has reached a similar agreement with a major US film company. This agreement will take effect from Universal Pictures’ list of movies in 2022.

On July 6, Universal Pictures and NBC Universal’s sister company streaming media platform Peacock reached a similar agreement on cooperation in the first four months and the last four months of the window period, involving “Jurassic World” and “Speed And Passion” movies, as well as “Despicable Me” movies and derivative movies. The new movie will appear on the streaming service within four months after it is shown in theaters.

Streaming media copyright may become very complicated in the future. Universal Pictures’ live-action movies will begin to be broadcast on Peacock streaming media within four months after they are released in theaters. After four months, they will move to Prime Video for a period of 10 months, and then the movie will return to Peacock for at least four months.

Netflix currently plays universal animated films from Lighting Entertainment and DreamWorks. According to reports, starting from next year, Netflix may still play animations released by the studio during the 10-month payment window without Peacock streaming. In any case, these movies will be available on Prime Video at a later date.

At the same time, Amazon’s free streaming service IMDb TV will have exclusive streaming rights for Universal Pictures’ 2020 and 2021 theater-line movies. The agreement includes “The Invisible Man” (The Invisible Man) and the current box office champion “Fast and Furious 9”, as well as some earlier animated films.
