An Iraqi influencer was shot dead outside her home in Baghdad

An Iraqi TikToker and influencer – known by the nickname Om Fahad but whose real name was Ghufran Sawadi – she was killed shot outside his home in Baghdad, Iraq. According to what was reported by the Iraqi authorities, the murder took place on Friday and the person responsible was a man on a motorbike, who fled after shooting.

Om Fahad had become well known in Iraq for videos posted on TikTok in which she danced to Iraqi music while wearing tight clothing. In February last year she was sentenced to six months in prison for sharing “videos containing indecent speeches that undermine public decency and morals”. In the previous period, the Iraqi government had carried out a campaign to moderate social media content that would violate the country’s “morals and traditions”, and a dedicated Interior Ministry committee had also been established. In addition to Om Fahad, many other influencers had been arrested.
