Li An was born in Chaozhou Town, Pingtung County. After graduating from the Taiwan Academy of Arts (now Taiwan University of the Arts), he continued to study in the United States. Recalling his nearly 50-year creative career, Ang Lee talked about his first Western work “Reason and Sensibility”, and bluntly said that “it was full of terrifying times”, and also praised that the level, eloquence and appearance of the British were very scary.
Because of the cultural conflict between China and the West, Ang Lee said with a smile that he “felt three levels smarter” after filming this film, and said that it would be of great help to him in the future. And the highest-grossing Chinese-language film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, making Ang Lee famous all over the world.
In this regard, Li An said with satisfaction: “It has always been a dream to introduce Eastern culture to the West in the creative form of dynamic martial arts films.”
Rao Zijuan, director of the Taipei Film Commission, also praised: “Ang Lee’s films let them see the texture.”
In order to give back to his hometown, director Ang Lee not only brought the world‘s top staff back to Taiwan to film “Pi’s Fantasy Drift”, but also donated tutoring funds to encourage the next generation of young people to create, and took over as the chairman of the Golden Horse Awards Executive Committee.
In the documentary, Wen Tianxiang, CEO of the Golden Horse Executive Committee, also said: “Director Ang Lee is a very warm and delicate filmmaker, and he will try his best to see all the shortlisted films.”
Yang Guimei, the Queen of the Golden Horse, joked that “the director is like a farmer, trying to cultivate new varieties”, affirming that director Ang Lee has made great contributions to Taiwanese films, and Ang Lee is also very grateful to Taiwan for the nutrients.
This documentary was exclusively interviewed and produced by the Taiwan TV team. Through interviews with the director and partners, historical photos and movie scenes are interspersed and presented. The soundtrack in the film is specially tailored by Jiang Rongzong, who has swept major international music awards. Everyone enters Ang Lee’s film life. The film will be broadcast on the main channel of Taiwan TV at 5 pm tomorrow (22).
