Anne Hathaway reveals “disgusting” audition process that required kissing actors

In a recent interview with V Magazine, award-winning actress Anne Hathaway opened up about a disturbing experience she faced early in her career. Hathaway revealed that in the 2000s, it was common practice for actors to be asked to kiss other actors during auditions to test their chemistry on camera. Hathaway described the experience as “disgusting” and admitted she felt uncomfortable with the request to kiss multiple male actors in one day.

The 41-year-old actress, known for her roles in films such as “Les Misérables,” shared that she was concerned about being labeled as difficult if she didn’t comply with the request. Hathaway emphasized that it was not a power play and no one was trying to hurt her, but rather a reflection of the norms of the industry at the time.

Hathaway is currently promoting her new film, “The Idea of You,” in which she plays a single mother who finds herself in an unexpected romance with the singer of a popular boy band. British actor Nicholas Galitzine plays the role of Hayes, the singer who captivates Hathaway’s character in the film. Hathaway revealed that the casting process for the role involved the actors choosing a song that they believed their character would love and engaging in improvisation with her during auditions.

Despite the uncomfortable experience Hathaway faced early in her career, she emphasized that times have changed and such practices are no longer acceptable in the industry. The actress spoke out about the need for a more respectful and professional approach to casting and chemistry testing in the entertainment industry.
