New corporate structure at Bersano Vini. The Massimelli family took over the shares of the Soave family acquiring complete control of the company.

The confirmation comes from the CEO Federica Massimelli: “The presidency remains in the hands of my father Ugo, almost ninety years old but always a point of reference for all of us – explains the entrepreneur – we will also have the support of my three sisters Fulvia, Orietta and Paola”. Graduated in economics and commerce, 53 years old, two children (Federico aged 22, Elisabetta aged 14), Federica has been working for years in the family business alongside her father Ugo, an oenologist, with increasing responsibility.

It was he who acquired Bersano in 1985, together with a group of partners including his longtime friend and business partner Biagio Soave. After 25 years, the path continues under the guidance of the Massimelli family alone, strongly motivated to increase the reputation of the brand worldwide. “With over 230 hectares of vineyards we are the largest winery in Piedmont – emphasizes Federica Massimelli with a pinch of pride – between Langa and Monferrato we have ten farmhouses located in the areas most suited to the production of Barolo, Barbera, Ruché, Moscato, Brachetto , Barbaresco. Our philosophy remains that of the origins: complete control of the process, from the vineyard to the cellar ». The annual production is about 1 million bottles sold for 50% abroad. The main markets are the United States, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Dubai. “We are doing a good job on China and Japan – says the CEO – the goal is to expand to new markets”. Founded in 1907, the Nicese company conquered the limelight between the 30s and the 60s thanks to the figure of Arturo Bersano, a lawyer and intellectual with great intuitions. His motto “If you want to drink well, buy yourself a vineyard”.

For Federica Massimelli the formula is more valid than ever: “We will invest in vineyards and farmsteads to increase and enhance the Piedmontese production”, he says. We are also thinking about the relaunch of cultural initiatives promoted by the great Arturo Bersano: «We want to revitalize the Confraternity of Bagna Cauda with the traditional convivial dinner open to customers and friends of the winery. In that context, we intend to re-propose the Paisan Vignaiolo Award with which cultural figures such as Guido Ceronetti and Umberto Eco have been awarded ». In the heart of the company, in Nice, there is the Peasant Museum, one of the richest in Piedmont, with over three thousand objects including a fine collection of handwritten prints and labels. –
