The task of a large company is also to put young choreographers to the test, to confirm names that have already come to light, to offer creative opportunities. Aterballetto then not only invites three big hits like Crystal Pite, Angelin Preljocaj, Rachid Ouramdame for the next programs, but confirms his confidence in two thirty-year-olds. Diego Tortelli, from Brescia, resident choreographer of Aterballetto (National Dance Foundation) and the Israeli Eyal Dadon, a little known name but already very popular on the international scene. They are the protagonists of the new production which debuted in Reggio Emilia at the Valli Theater and is ready for a new tour.

“Yeled” in Hebrew means child, and Dadon wanted this title to return to his memories, to dance the gestures of the little ones, to tell the loss of innocence: to move like puppets, to paint one’s face black and red, to play with a purple bunny. This and more fills Dadon’s song bringing us back to a childhood that finds refuge in a white hut whose interior is told by a camera that projects images on a large video.

The dancers of the company, with their hair brightened, their arms raised, in an angular position, appear in the proscenium at the opening of the curtain, parade, exit from the right and give way to the companions who enter from the left. A seemingly endless parade of dancers who then melts to make way for groups engaged in a dance full of strength, at times exasperated, underlined by the light fired by a series of spotlights often aimed at the spectators as if to underline the will of the choreographer to put in direct exchange of dancers and audience in the stalls. “Shoot me” is the title of the song, an expression that bends to different interpretations. And that Tortelli declines on the spritualized music.

Choreographer on the crest of the wave Tortelli will be at the Venice Biennale of dance at the end of July. He is in fact the winner of the first competition for Italian choreographers. The choice was dictated by his “inquiring vision and tireless curiosity. On stage in Venice a project entitled “Fo: NO” which, explains the Venetian jury, “lets us enter the body through the throat, for a sound and visceral experiment in which beat boxing, identity politics and dance are mixed, throughout the its complexity. “

In the meantime the company is already busy on summer dates with these titles and other repertoire pieces.
