The TSMC Cultural and Educational Foundation’s “2024 TSMC Art Season” kicked off at the old Taichung Railway Station on the 30th of April. This year’s art season is centered around the theme of “Leaping – Inner World” and features a special interactive exhibition based on “Liao Zhai” literature. The exhibition will run until May 20 and includes literary lectures, markets, and performances, aiming to bring classical literature closer to the public in a fun and engaging way.
City Hall Culture Director Chen Jiajun expressed gratitude to the TSMC Cultural and Educational Foundation for choosing the old Taichung Railway Station as the venue for this year’s special exhibition. Through a variety of activities such as exhibitions, lectures, markets, and magic theater performances, he believes that the vivid stories from “Liao Zhai” will come to life for the public to enjoy.
Furthermore, TSMC Cultural and Educational Foundation Director Chen Jianbang stated that the foundation’s Art Season has been ongoing for 21 years, continuously injecting artistic and cultural vitality into the cities where TSMC operates. This year’s theme of “crossover” showcases elite art teams from literature, music, and drama, presenting the concept of art in a unique and innovative way. For the first time, the art season has collaborated with “United Literature” magazine to curate the “Liao Zhai – Unreal Truth, Inheriting the Human World” interactive exhibition, offering a new perspective on classic texts and inviting the public to explore the world of classical literature.
The “Liao Zhai” special exhibition features four main areas, including “Understanding Liaozhai” and “Rakshasa Sea”, using creative techniques to bring to life eight classic stories such as “Nie Xiaoqian” and “Painted Skin”. Additionally, writers Liao Yuhui and Xie Yi’an will give a lecture on “Liao Zhai”, a “Mirage” travel market will be set up, and magic artist Lin Lujie will perform “Youth: Brave New World“, providing a diverse and comprehensive magical experience for visitors.
The TSMC Art Season will also feature the “When Mambo Meets Mozart: Swinging Havana” concert at the National Opera House in Taichung, showcasing Berlin Philharmonic French horn player Sarah Willis, Cuban Vision Club vocalist Carlos Karenga, and the Havana Big Band for a cross-border music feast.
Overall, the 2024 TSMC Art Season promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for art and culture enthusiasts in Taiwan.
