Billie Eilish Credits “What Was I Made For?” for Restoring Creativity: After Winning Two Grammy Awards

Billie Eilish Scores Two Grammy Awards for “What Was I Made For?”

After her recent triumph at the 2024 Grammy Awards, Billie Eilish opened up about the personal challenges she faced before creating the award-winning track “What Was I Made For?”. The song, which was part of the Barbie movie soundtrack, earned Eilish and her brother Finneas, the Song of the Year award and Best Song Written for a Visual Medium.

Eilish admitted that she struggled creatively before being given the opportunity to compose for Barbie. She described a time of uncertainty and self-doubt, feeling as though she and her brother were unable to produce meaningful music. However, she revealed that being approached by Greta Gerwig, the director of Barbie, became the “creative spark” they needed to reignite their passion for their work.

The recognition they received at the Grammy Awards has reaffirmed Eilish’s sense of being “seen” as a woman in the music industry. She expressed gratitude for the response to the song and the sense of understanding and connection it has brought.

The success of “What Was I Made For?” at the Grammys has led Eilish to also be at the center of the Oscars, where the track is nominated for Best Original Song. If Eilish wins, it would mark her second Oscar, following her previous win for “No Time to Die” in 2022.

The achievements of Eilish and Finneas serve as a testament to their resilience and a reminder of the profound impact a single creative opportunity can have.
