Brazil overwhelms Argentina and joins Canada in the women’s Gold Cup semifinals

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Beatriz Zaneratto Joao scored a double, including a goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, and Brazil beat Argentina 5-1 on Saturday to reach the semifinals of the women’s Gold Cup.

Vitória Yaya opened the scoring in the 19th minute, Yasmin Assis Ribeiro extended the difference in the 36th and Zaneratto Joao made it 3-0 in the 54th, seven before Gabi Nunes left everything resolved for the Canarinha.

Celeste dos Santos scored the winning goal for the Albicelestes, but Zaneratto Joao scored his second goal in the throes of the match at the Banc of California Stadium.
