Celebrations and market, Albenga celebrating Santa Lucia

by admin

A bridge between the city of towers and Sicily in honor of Santa Lucia, a historical link that has continued for years considering that a large community of Sicilian families lives in Albenga. For years it has been considered the second patron saint after San Michele. Today at 9, the traditional market of Santa Lucia will be held in Piazza IV Novembre with various stalls with sweets and objects. At 11 a solemn mass was celebrated in Santa Maria in Fontibus with the blessing and distribution of traditional Sicilian bread. The celebrations will also go on in the afternoon. At 4 pm the singing of Vespers is scheduled in Santa Maria in Fontibus then we will return to Piazza IV Novembre with music and buffet. It then continues on Monday 13 December. At 9 am the mass in honor of Santa Lucia is scheduled which will see the participation of the mayors of Albenga, Villalba, Vallelunga, Mussomeli, Marianopoli, Santa Caterina Villarmosa and the municipalities of the province of Savona. The second weekend of December is an appointment-call for thousands and thousands of people, almost certainly the most important of the year in Albenga where the vast majority of families either born in the South, or native, integrated into the Ingauna community, live. The complex organizational machine has as its reference point the Cultural Association Festa di Santa Lucia, founded in 1980, as a spontaneous committee for the organization of the religious celebration in honor of Saint Lucia of Syracuse, in 2002 with the increase in the days of celebration the association was formed. The purpose, according to the statute, is to promote Sicilian culture and tradition, in particular to renew the bond of the twinned municipalities: Villalba, Mussomeli, Santa Caterina di Villarmosa, Vallelunga Pratamento, Resuttano and Marianopoli.
