The result is a surprising film, which is also striking for the remarkable performance of the protagonist Bartosz Bielenia.
Rifkin’s Festival
Among the most anticipated novelties of the week is undoubtedly Woody Allen’s “Rifkin’s Festival.” The protagonist is an American couple who travels to Spain to participate in the San Sebastián Festival: the trip, however, could change them profoundly and make them discover new feelings. Undoubtedly a pleasure, after so many months of closed theaters, to be able to return to see on the big screen a film by one of the most important directors of American cinema of the last fifty years: you can feel the lightness and unmistakable touch of the American author, but the limits lie in a script full of ideas recycled from previous works and in the collaboration with Vittorio Storaro on photography which this time gives less interesting results than usual.
A subdued cast does not help, but it is the whole operation that is a bit watered down, perhaps because it lacks truly significant moments that were also present in Allen’s more recent films, such as “The Wheel of Wonders” or “A Day of Wonders.” rain in New York ».
Without remorse
Among the on-demand novelties, however, on Prime Video has arrived “Senza remorso”, a new feature film by Stefano Sollima. Taken from the novel of the same name by Tom Clancy, it is an action film with a rather canonical plot, centered on an expert navy seal willing to do anything to avenge the death of his pregnant wife. During his mission, however, he finds himself in the midst of a gigantic conspiracy that could endanger the United States.
Spin-off of the film series on “Jack Ryan”, this feature film is not striking in the least for the script, predictable and calculated, but has a discreet staging on its side that confirms Sollima’s skill in shooting, in particular, the action sequences. A little bit, however: after «Soldado» and the «ZeroZeroZero» series, we could expect more from the Italian director, also considering his ability to better manage international productions and English-speaking actors.
