Covid, Abu Dhabi loosens restrictions and protocols for inbound travelers

Abu Dhabi has reviewed its travel restrictions and protocols on Covid-19 following positive indicators on the pandemic emergency. According to updated regulations from the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), the green list system has been removed for all travelers flying to Abu Dhabi. Fully vaccinated arriving travelers no longer need to take a PCR test before boarding their flight. However, they are still required to show an official Covid-19 vaccination certificate with a readable QR code upon arrival. Non-vaccinated inbound travelers will still need to present a negative PCR test result carried out within 48 hours of scheduled departure, or a Covid-19 recovery certificate dated within 30 days of departure, complete with a readable QR code. Travelers under 12 are exempt. The PCR test on arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport is no longer mandatory for travelers, regardless of their vaccination status. However, the testing service remains active at the airport for those who wish to use it, at a cost of AED 40 per swab.

While not mandatory to enter Abu Dhabi, travelers are encouraged to take the PCR test at the airport to activate their Green pass on the Al Hosn app, which is still required to access many of Abu Dhabi’s inland tourist attractions such as shopping malls, hotels, theme parks and restaurants.

The Green pass on the Al Hosn app is enabled for those who are fully vaccinated and have a negative PCR test result for 14 days, or are officially vaccinated free and have a negative PCR test result for 7 days, or are less than 16 years. The PCR test must have been performed in the UAE. Tourists are considered fully vaccinated even if they have not taken the booster dose. The Green pass on the Al Hosn app or a negative Pcr test result obtained within 96 hours is still required to visit exhibitions and events. Vaccinated tourists can alternatively enter public places by presenting their Covid-19 vaccination certificate, or by showing full vaccination status on their home country’s mobile application, as well as a negative PCR test result obtained in the last 14 days.

The PCR test must have been done in the UAE. Those who have been in close contact with a positive Covid-19 case are no longer required to quarantine. Instead, they should take daily PCR tests for five consecutive days. In Abu Dhabi, the use of masks is now optional in outdoor spaces, although masks are still required when indoors. Social distance is no longer required.
