Culture is not enough against fascism. Where is politics?

by admin

More and more often we hear and write that to combat the nostalgia for fascism widespread in today’s society, culture is a valid antidote. Unfortunately, in our school, the history discipline, in addition to being marginalized, is indigestible for many students. Perhaps also because of not a few intellectually lazy teachers, therefore in the case in question not adequately equipped to discuss the coming to power and then the failure of the fascist movement founded by Mussolini.

This makes it difficult to avoid the clouding of historical consciousness and knowledge, which thus remain the prerogative of a minority. It should also not be forgotten that the contrast to the fascist and anti-Semitic upsurge is insufficient, not to say sterile, if this is conceived only in moral and cultural terms. I mean that politics must also give concrete answers to the social unease and frustrations that poison the daily lives of millions of Italians. But are the protagonists of our country’s political life up to the terrible historical time we are living?
