After the “00” candidate, Yan Yunzhou, who just passed his 18th birthday, he passed the college entrance examination and was admitted to his favorite university with twists and turns. Song Yuntian, a Ph.D. graduate of the Department of Water Conservancy, said goodbye to the ivory tower. The ideal of the common people; Cai Zheng, a “Hubble Scholar” who has been in the United States for ten years, enters the Department of Astronomy, bringing back a bold attempt to “look up to the stars”; Academician Qian Yi of the School of Environmental Sciences ushered in her retirement ceremony at the age of 83 , But she still ploughed on the three-foot podium, walking non-stop.

The search for the meaning of life is another theme of the film. “I hope you will achieve a meaningful life in the process of pursuing the truth.” The closing remarks of the movie trailer come from a speech by Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, at the opening ceremony of the 2018 undergraduate freshmen. “The “University” uses the’four’ ordinary but extraordinary Tsinghua teachers and students to interpret the purity, fullness and beauty of the university’s pursuit of truth, meaning, and life value.” said film producer Yin Hong.
The film focuses on individual life choices and changes in destiny, reflecting the tide of change of the times, and embodies the conscious response and mission of university people represented by the teachers and students of Tsinghua University to the great changes in China and the world today.

2021 coincides with the 110th anniversary of the founding of Tsinghua University. Tsinghua Academy appears as a landmark of Tsinghua University in the fixed-file posters that were simultaneously exposed. The film was officially launched on the 107th anniversary of Tsinghua University. It took three years of accompanying documentary shooting and accumulated more than 1,000 hours of material.
Directors Sun Hong, Wang Jing, and Ke Yongquan are all graduates of the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University. The creative team is mostly Tsinghua University faculty, students and alumni. The 110-minute filming of “University” is a letter from Tsinghua students presenting their alma mater to the 110th anniversary celebration.
The film condenses the daily campus of Tsinghua University in the video, vividly interprets Tsinghua University’s motto of “Continuous self-improvement and ethics” from the perspective of ordinary people, and conveys the spirit and mission of the university. This is a feeling of the three directors for their alma mater and an attempt to fill the gaps in the domestic university documentary.
