Hangzhou IP original drama “Spring Dawn on Su Di” to premiere in Beijing
The city of Hangzhou, known for its rich cultural heritage, is set to bring a piece of its history to Beijing with the upcoming premiere of the original drama “Spring Dawn on Su Di”. This play, recalling the essence of Su Dongpo in the Spring Breeze, is a tribute to the beloved figure and the Song Rhyme Culture that he embodies.
The drama, which premiered at the 18th China Drama Festival in Hangzhou, received overwhelming applause and calls for a national tour. Now, as the “Dong Slope Fever” heats up once again, the play will make its Beijing debut at the National Theater Theater from April 5th to 14th as part of its 2024 national tour.
Directed by Tian Qinxin and Gao Leilei, and written by Tian Qinxin and Zhang Kunpeng, “Spring Dawn on Su Di” promises a unique interpretation of Su Dongpo’s life through a non-linear narrative structure. Starring renowned actors Xin Baiqing, Wu Bi, and Su Qing, the play offers a humorous and insightful look into the life of the iconic figure.
This production marks the sixth collaboration between actor Xin Baiqing and director Tian Qinxin, showcasing their dedication to bringing Chinese stories to life on the stage. With a focus on authenticity and innovation, “Spring Dawn on Su Di” aims to captivate audiences with its portrayal of Su Dongpo and his contemporaries.
The play’s visual aesthetics draw inspiration from the Song Dynasty, creating a stage space that is both real and imaginary, reflecting the beauty and charm of traditional Chinese culture. As director Tian Qinxin emphasizes, the play is a testament to the enduring influence of China’s traditional culture on contemporary audiences.
With tickets selling out in record time and box office numbers soaring, “Spring Dawn on Su Di” exemplifies the power of cultural storytelling in bringing communities together. As the play continues its national tour, audiences can expect to be immersed in the captivating world of Su Dongpo and the Song Dynasty.
For those unable to attend the premiere in Beijing, the play will also be staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts in June, followed by tours in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and other cities. Additionally, plans are in place for a resident version of “Spring Dawn on Su Di” to be showcased at the Dongpo Grand Theater in Hangzhou this summer, ensuring that the legacy of Su Dongpo continues to thrive in the hearts of theater fans and audiences alike.
