At a recent forum in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, Wang Zhonglei, co-founder, vice chairman, and CEO of Huayi Brothers Media Co., Ltd., discussed the company’s new approach to filmmaking. The forum, part of the “2023-2024 Chinese Film Big Data and Movie Channel M List Honor Night” activities, brought together industry experts to analyze and predict trends in film investment and the consumer market.
During the event, Wang Zhonglei highlighted Huayi Brothers’ future projects, emphasizing a focus on stories about ordinary people. The upcoming film “Rooftop Soccer,” set for release on April 20, follows girls in Yunnan fighting for their football dreams. Another film, “Dogs,” directed by Guan Hu, explores the lives of small people and has been shortlisted for the Cannes International Film Festival. Additionally, “Laifu Hotel,” starring Huang Xuan and Liu Yan, delves into the concept of “home” and is scheduled for release during the Dragon Boat Festival.
Discussing the importance of high-quality IP in the film industry, Wang Zhonglei stressed the significance of storytelling. He noted that a good story forms the foundation for successful IP development, allowing for expansion into other formats. As the Chinese film market has grown over the years, Wang Zhonglei emphasized the company’s commitment to prioritizing content quality.
As Huayi Brothers celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, Wang Zhonglei echoed the sentiment of maintaining their original vision and love for content. He emphasized the company’s dedication to storytelling and expressed optimism for the future of Chinese cinema.
