The Beijing News and TVB have joined forces to create a unique culinary series titled “Following Hong Kong Dramas to Eat Food.” This special program aims to delve into the distinctive food culture of Hong Kong by exploring various dishes featured in classic Hong Kong TV dramas. To kick off the series, renowned Hong Kong actor and “Soup Master” Cao Yonglian shared insights into the tradition of soup cooking for health and beauty in Hong Kong.

According to statistics, the average Hong Kong family cooks soup 2.5 times a week, incorporating a wide range of ingredients such as abalone, black-bone chicken, pork ribs, scallops, cordyceps flowers, mushrooms, dried fruits, and Chinese herbal medicines. Building on this cultural phenomenon, Cao Yonglian and the production team visited a popular soup restaurant in Mong Kok to further delve into the Hong Kong people’s passion for soup and its perceived health benefits.

The timing of this collaboration is significant, as it coincides with the full resumption of customs clearance between mainland China and Hong Kong since February 6, 2023. With the Hong Kong tourism market gradually recovering, the partnership between The Beijing News and TVB seeks to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland by showcasing the city’s unique culinary scene. The program will feature five TVB actors, including Chen Hao, Wu Dingxin, Yuan Weihao, Chen Minzhi, and Cao Yonglian, as they embark on a gastronomic journey exploring ten iconic Hong Kong dishes. Through their experiences, viewers will have the opportunity to relive classic TV moments and discover the creative stories behind these dishes, all while experiencing the authentic flavors of Hong Kong.
