Exploring Yunnan’s Talented Choirs: The Origin of the “Xiaoya Lu Ming” and “Crab Song” Singers

Yunnan Choir Goes Viral with Unique Songs “Xiaoya Lu Ming” and “Crab Song”

In a surprising turn of events, a choir from Yunnan has captured the attention of netizens with their enchanting performances of “Xiaoya Lu Ming” and “Crab Song.” The Children’s Chorus of the Primary School Affiliated to Yuxi Normal University and the Yuxi Nie Er Teachers’ Choir have gained popularity on the internet for their clear children’s voices and “magic” lyrics.

The origin of these songs traces back to the heartwarming story of conductor Pu Hailing. Starting choral activities back in 2020 at a rural primary school, Pu Hailing aimed to nurture children through music and instill in them optimism and warmth. The success of the “Ruoshui Children’s Choir” led to the establishment of the Yuxi Nie Er Teachers’ Choir in August 2022, composed mainly of music teachers who share the same passion for music education.

Despite the challenges of distance and logistics, the 78 members of the Yuxi Nie Er Teachers’ Choir, many of whom teach in rural schools, come together to rehearse and perform with dedication and enthusiasm. Additionally, Pu Hailing also formed the Children’s Chorus of Yuxi Normal University, creating a unique blend of teachers and students in their musical journey.

The unexpected popularity of the “Crab Song” came as a pleasant surprise to Pu Hailing and her choir members. As they continue to inspire audiences with their performances, Pu Hailing plans to focus on promoting China’s traditional culture and Yunnan folk songs through their music.

With their innovative approach and commitment to music education, the Yuxi Nie Er Teachers’ Choir and the Children’s Chorus of Yuxi Normal University are set to captivate more hearts and minds in the future.
