Portraying the character of “game designer” Jiang Yi, Fan Chengcheng has found himself facing a unique challenge. The drama utilizes a two-line narrative, causing the characters to “flashback” between the ages of 17 and 30. This age span has proven to be quite a challenge for Fan Chengcheng, who admitted, “The age span of this drama is relatively large. There is definitely a big difference between a 17-year-old and a 30-year-old. This growth process is quite challenging for me.”
To prepare for such a demanding role, Fan Chengcheng did extensive research, trying to find resonance with those born in the 1990s – the same generation as his character in the show. He gathered insights from friends and staff, delving into their experiences and emotions from their youth to better understand his character’s development.
Additionally, Fan Chengcheng also addressed the thrill and pressure of working alongside Yang Zi, whom he described as “lively and cute”. He revealed, “Privately, Yang Zi is a little girl next door, very lively and cute, and she is also a ‘talkative’ like me. We have become very good friends on the crew, and we have been talking to each other non-stop. It’s fun, a lot of fun things happen every day.”
Yet, he is well aware of the pressure of sharing the screen with such a talented actress. “Azi’s acting skills are generally recognized as good, so acting with her is quite stressful. I will continue to pressurize myself, hoping to give my opponents better emotional feedback and make Huang Yingzi and Jiang Yi look… It has more sparks,” Fan Chengcheng said.
Aside from the challenges of the show, Fan Chengcheng also reminisced about his own youth, admitting that his biggest regret is not mastering the game of basketball. He also shed light on his character’s pure and enduring love for Huang Yingzi, played by Yang Zi, which has resonated with many viewers.
