BERLIN (AP) — Authorities in Brussels searched the European Parliament offices of a prominent far-right German lawmaker on Tuesday, according to German prosecutors.
Maximilian Krah, the Alternative for Germany party’s leading candidate in the upcoming European Parliament elections, was under scrutiny after an adviser of his was detained last month on suspicion of spying for China.
Jian Guo — a German citizen who had worked for Krah since he was elected as a European Union lawmaker in 2019 — has been accused of working for a Chinese intelligence service and repeatedly sending information about negotiations and decisions by the European Parliament in January.
Prosecutors said in a statement Tuesday that “the European Parliament has authorized entry into the facilities.”
Guo’s apartment in Brussels was already searched last month, according to the prosecutor’s statement.
