Farewell to Giuseppe Tencaioli, with the poems and the dialect he told Novara

by admin

Mourning in the Novara cultural world: Giuseppe Tencaioli died yesterday afternoon at the age of 96. He had been an official of the San Paolo bank for a long time, but above all he had always been a lover of poetry, the Novara dialect and the traditions of the city. In 1969 he had toured the nursing homes in Novara to collect ancient local stories from the voice of the elderly: from there a volume was born, the «Cuntuli Nuaresi». Tencaioli was also one of the founders, with the lawyer Giulio Genocchio, of the «Nuarèsa Family», an association that has always promoted the cultural traditions of the city and fought for the preservation of the dialect. «The crafts and games of the past» is another work in which Tencaioli tells the Novara of the past.

“He was a great lover of poetry – recalls his son Ernesto – and in fact he published several volumes all in dialect, the language he loved and tried to pass on with passion to young people”. Tencaioli had been part of the “Cinq da Nuara”, a group that had made records to promote dialect culture. He had also been a painter, participating in some of the artistic movements of the city. m. g.
