For once it was no surprise in which municipality Fien Germijns would knock or call on Monday for the final round of Today’s Day. While quizmaster Bart Cannaerts normally calls on everyone to register at the start of the quiz, this time he addressed the people of Breen. Fien Germijns was already on his way to North Limburg and Bart wanted to surprise his colleague for her birthday. And that was clearly seen in Bree. “The number of registrations in Bree was five times higher than on any other evening. People also indicated on the registration form what they had in store for Fien,” reports VRT. “In many places people had hung streamers and banners and blown up balloons. There were horns, homemade birthday crowns, hats, streamers and even confetti cannons. There was champagne, limoncello, prosecco, cava, beer, Aperol Spritz, Bellini or white wine cold everywhere. “And the red one is chambering,” someone wrote. ‘She can choose. I have some nice whiskey, or possibly prosecco, and the water is okay too,” another person sent.”

“If Fien had visited all the addresses where people had registered, she could have eaten indigestion on cookies, nuts, chip snacks, (homemade) chocolate mousse, ice cream, lemon sorbet, puffs, sausage rolls or cake, chips, Dr. Oetker pizza, brownies, pralines, cake, salami, cheese, boulettes, ‘tasty nibbles and dips’, cupcakes, nachos, chocolate, donuts, pancakes and of course Limburg pie.”
Technical issue
Finally, Fien was allowed to ring the doorbell in Diamantstraat, where Sofie and her mother opened the door – with balloons. Fien never comes empty-handed and had provided two pastries in addition to the check. In the studio, Xavier Taveirne, Margaux Bogaert and Peter Van de Veire won the 3,500 euros for Sofie in no time, after which the party could really get started. The neighbors, who had all registered, had now joined us.
