Almost everything is ready for the start of the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from 14 to 25 May. Within the very rich program we have identified what are the most significant titles for us:
Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola
It is not only the most anticipated film of the Festival, but absolutely one of the films that cinephiles all over the world have been waiting for for several years now. The director of “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” is back behind the camera for a project he has been pursuing for a very long time: at the center is the story of an architect from New York City, who has a utopian plan to rebuild the city, totally destroyed by a catastrophe, in a completely new and innovative way. Adam Driver will be the protagonist for what, in any case, will be the great event of the event.
Parthenope by Paolo Sorrentino
The only Italian film in competition is one of the most anticipated feature films of the year: after the emotional “It Was the Hand of God”, Paolo Sorrentino returns to tell the story of his Naples in this film which promises to be equally engaging. At the center is the life of Partenope, which is called like his city, but she is not a mermaid or even a myth. From 1950, when she was born, the character will become a metaphor for social and existential changes, with the city of Naples certainly being the co-protagonist of the screenplay. Sorrentino has already been to Cannes several times (including with his most beautiful and important films, “Il divo” and “The great beauty”) and is one of the names to take into consideration in this year’s competition.

The Shrouds di David Cronenberg
We expect a new masterpiece from David Cronenberg, an author who with this film signs one of the most intimate and personal projects of his career. The protagonist is Vincent Cassel in the role of a man who seems to be an alter ego of the Canadian director, both for his look and for the situation he has recently experienced. Having become a widower, the main character does not give up on the fact that he can no longer have any connection with his wife and decides to build a device that allows him to connect with the deceased inside a funerary shroud. “The Shrouds” appears to be a particularly heartfelt product, which is preparing to shake the Croisette like few others.
Kinds of Kindness di Yorgos Lanthimos
After the Golden Lion won at the last Venice Film Festival with “Poor Creatures”, Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos is aiming for another important recognition at the Cannes Film Festival with his new film. In the cast there are several well-known faces – from Emma Stone to Margaret Qualley, from Willem Dafoe to Jesse Plemons – who play the various characters in an ensemble film, divided into several stories which we imagine will eventually converge. The first promotional materials showed an eccentric project, in which genres and styles mix, perfectly suited to its author.
