Federlight is the opener of the debut album “Sweetest” by Stephan Paulitsch aka ghostdog., who is already known in the Austrian music scene as the virtuoso bassist for VIECH, Lucy Dreams and Almost Famous.

On that opener Federlight It becomes immediately clear: Paulitsch has a heart for the framing psychedelic basslines and, as is typical of the genre, the drums are also very present in the mix.

Some spacey, wind tunnel-like effects shoot the song into space. The drum cymbals also seem unable to escape the rushing pull of the effects – the exact blueprint of the effects for the journey into the universe of his music is of course better known to Paulitsch’s inventive genius.

Then the drums stop – the song becomes feather-light and floating. “Ois wor light / so light as a feather”Paul Plut sings in a deep voice as the song loses its gravitas.

In the finale, the drumming is reminiscent of prog and jazz at times and leads the song to the end in a frantic and rocketing manner. The ears are the journey and the music is getting faster and faster. The singing becomes polyphonic and increasingly emotional.

Federlight creates his special atmosphere through spoken word passages and sophisticated instrumentals. If you really listen to this song often until you notice all the details and they mesh together – then overall and in the universe you get a coherent, psychedelic track, as an opener for an album that is best listened to in album form. That’s why the whole album is embedded below for you.
