Griselda on Netflix: The Controversy Surrounding the Series

The Netflix series “Griselda”, which premiered on January 25, stars Colombian actress Sofía Vergara and follows the life of Griselda Blanco, known as “The Godmother of Cocaine”. The controversial and striking series shows various aspects of Blanco’s life starting from her early beginnings in crime at the age of 13 to her rise in drug trafficking in Miami and her consolidation as the main cocaine distributor. In the series, Blanco is shown to have the help of Jesús “Chucho” Castro, her lieutenant and most efficient enforcer, who played a key role in her criminal activities.

In real life, “Chucho” was Blanco’s hitman for several years before leaving her to live a life away from her activities. However, she pursued him by sending hitmen, eventually leading to the death of his two-year-old son. While this failed to accomplish the intended goal, it is said that Blanco was ecstatic with the result and considered it revenge for Chucho rejecting her. The story of “Chucho” Castro exemplifies the levels of cruelty to which Blanco was willing to go and adds another layer of intrigue to the controversial Netflix series.
