Teen from Virginia Showcases Talent in Woodworking, Bladesmithing, and Leatherworking
In a time where traditional crafts are slowly fading away, one young man from Virginia is working hard to keep them alive. Lincoln Cashell, a 15-year-old homeschooled student, has been diligently learning the art of woodworking, bladesmithing, and leatherworking with the support of his parents, Casey and Jason Cashell, and his siblings.
The Cashell family, who run the Mayhurst Estate luxury bed and breakfast, made the decision to homeschool their four children to instill strong values and work ethic in them. Lincoln’s homeschooling journey has given him the time and freedom to explore his interests, leading him to develop a passion for working with his hands.
From an early age, Lincoln showed an interest in woodworking, starting with small projects using toothpicks. With the guidance of his mentor and father, he honed his skills in carpentry, blacksmithing, and leatherworking. Lincoln also taught himself how to use CAD 3D printing design software, showcasing his versatility and determination to learn new skills.
