“Hong Kong Market” Event in Glasgow Disrupted by Strong Winds
The “Hong Kong Market” event held at Barras Market in Glasgow, Scotland, attracted thousands of people over the weekend of April 6 and 7, as reported by The Epoch Times. The event featured Hong Kong-style signboards, performances, and vendors selling traditional Hong Kong products.
The carefully designed layout of Hong Kong-style signboards at the venue was disrupted by strong winds, causing damage and injuries to several tourists. The signboards, hand-drawn by Hong Kong volunteers, were eventually dismantled and hung on a wall for safety reasons.
Despite the weather challenges, the market saw a good turnout, with 80% of attendees being British locals and only 20% being Hong Kong people. Vendors sold a variety of Hong Kong-style snacks, with items such as beef tripe, pineapple cakes, and snowflake cakes selling out quickly.
Vendor Mr. Huang, owner of stall 9 On Cloud, shared that the market response was positive, with many British locals showing interest in Hong Kong products. However, the weather posed challenges for vendors, with tents and products being blown away by the strong winds.
The event organizer acknowledged the oversight in not considering the impact of strong winds and shared plans to review arrangements for future events. Despite the challenges, the “Hong Kong Market” event was a unique opportunity for attendees to experience a taste of Hong Kong in Glasgow.
