Houthi rebels in Yemen may have attacked a ship in the Bab el Mandeb Strait

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A ship was hit by two missiles Monday in the crucial Bab el Mandeb Strait, a new attack blamed on Houthi rebels in Yemen.

No one was injured in the attack and the ship continued its journey, according to a statement from the British Maritime Trade Operations office.

It was unclear how much damage the vessel had sustained.

The Houthis did not initially claim responsibility for the attack, but it often takes several hours for the rebels to claim responsibility for their operations.

Rebels have attacked ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November over Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. That has disrupted freight traffic through those areas and the Bab el Mandeb Strait, which connects them.
